Congresswoman Secures Funds for the 38th District

(Washington D.C.)- Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D-Norwalk) is pleased to announce the House and Senate approval today of nearly $11.5 million in funding for projects in the 38th District that will have a positive impact on jobs, public safety and small business. The final FY 2006 Science, State, Justice and Commerce (SSJC) Appropriations Bill and the FY 2006 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill are now awaiting the President’s signature.

The SSJC Appropriations Bill included $1 million in federal funding for the Fairplex Trade and Conference Center in Pomona. Napolitano encouraged funding for the Fairplex, home of the Los Angeles County Fair, because it would provide major economic benefits for the surrounding communities including Pomona and San Dimas.

In addition, the SSJC Appropriations Bill included funding for the following law enforcement/public safety requests by Congresswoman Napolitano:

• $100,000 to replace and upgrade the Montebello Police Department’s Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System (CAD/RMS).
• $100,000 for the City of Pomona’s Interagency Communications Interoperability System to assist police, fire, public works, medical and emergency response teams.
• $150,000 for Rio Hondo College’s Law Enforcement Technologies Program for training first responders, law enforcement personnel and local governments in the Los Angeles county area.

“Although I had requested full funding of these programs, I am sure this money will serve some crucial needs in my district toward improving public safety,” added Napolitano.

Congress also approved $10 million in the FY 2006 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill for the San Gabriel Restoration Fund to continue cleaning up the San Gabriel and Central Groundwater Basins which will protect the drinking water supplies of more than 3 million people.

“This cleanup project remains a top priority. It is a key component in the San Gabriel Valley’s and Southern California’s overall plan to protect its water supply from spreading cancer-causing toxins in groundwater that has been contaminated by dangerous chemicals contained in rocket fuel,” said Napolitano.

Congress approved an additional $80,000 for an upgrade of the water infrastructure for the City of  Norwalk, based on earthquake and disaster preparedness recommendations from the Army Corps of Engineers.
