(Washington D.C.)- Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano was deeply touched to receive an award for her contributions in advancing the Latina agenda as she participated in the National Latina Symposium held in the nation’s capital Friday, September 9.
“This is truly an honor,” said Napolitano, D-Norwalk, as she accepted the award. “I am grateful for this recognition and thank Latina Style for organizing this wonderful event that helps empower Latina women. My job is to continue working to improve the status of Latinas in the workplace and to keep national attention focused on the celebration and advancement of non-traditional roles for women.”
The second annual national Latina symposium is focusing on the power of more than 7 million U.S. Latina working women with roundtables, sessions and activities organized by LATINA Style magazine. As the economic and social clout of Latina working women grows, strengthening the impact of the group on American society is the goal of the event in Washington, D.C. In addition, a special luncheon in the afternoon honored Latinas from every armed forces branch who have inspired others to greatness through their service and accomplishments in the U.S. military. The two-day event wraps up with a White House Reception on Friday evening.
“Latinas are a large part of this country’s economy, I want to commend this dynamic new force of Latina working women changing America and I hope they become our new leaders,” Napolitano said.
