Napolitano Announces Federal Grant To Build Housing for Low-Income Seniors in Pomona

(Washington D.C.)- Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano (D-Norwalk) is pleased to announce the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approval of a $9.9 million grant to construct a senior housing facility in Pomona. Napolitano worked with HUD and the Pomona City Council to help obtain the grant approval submitted by a local development corporation.

Pomona is welcoming the proposed 70-unit project that will help ease the tremendous shortage of affordable housing for senior citizens in Pomona. The area is in need of additional housing to aid seniors currently on a waiting list. The development will add to the great diversity of the city.

“This housing development will provide a safe place for residents to live comfortably through their golden years,” said Napolitano. “With the help of Pomona civic leaders, this will be a jewel to add attractiveness to an area that has long been ignored.”

Construction on the housing project is scheduled to begin in the summer of ’07. It will be located at the Southeast corner of Phillips Blvd. and San Antonio Ave., a half-mile east of Garey Ave.
