Napolitano Welcomes 38th District Art Contest Winner to
Washington for Special Recognition
Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano (D-CA38) today
welcomed Andres Carlos, 38th District Congressional Art
Contest winner, to Washington, D.C., for special recognition events with
other winners from across the nation. The student artists were given a
reception and attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony in the U.S. Capitol
hallway where their art will be displayed for one year. “I am
enormously proud of Andres for his hard work and extraordinary
achievement,” noted the Congresswoman.
Andres’s artwork, entitled “Army Guys,” was
selected as the 38th District’s first place winner in May, and he was
honored at a local ceremony with over 150 other local participants and
honorees. “It was a real honor to win this contest. I’ve won other
contests before, but nothing as big as this,” Andres commented.
The opportunity to come to Washington with his
mother was one of the most exciting aspects of the competition for
Andres, a student at Garey High School in Pomona. “This was my first
time in Washington, DC. It is very different from my hometown,” he
noted.

“I
am so thrilled to see Andres and many other students participating in
the art contest. It is important that we give young, talented people an
opportunity to showcase their artwork and receive recognition for it,”
Napolitano concluded.
